New Feature... The Best Practices Series!
Best Practice #7: Stay away from Proprietary Equipment! Why be handcuffed to one vendor and one type of equipment? This leaves you little choice in who can service your equipment and where you can get replacement parts. Make sure you ask your vendor if the equipment they are selling is proprietary. Ideally, you invest in products that are sold by multiple vendors in your region so you have options (just like your service agreement). If you do get into a proprietary equipment situation, try to research if there are any other 3rd parties that can service or get the equipment so you are not held hostage by one vendor.
Pitfalls of Proprietary Equipment :
  • Extremely Expensive
  • At the mercy of the vendor
  • Limits your choices & options
  • Handcuffs you to only one product or service provider

Wincor Nixdorf "Envelope Free Deposit" ATM Machines make Innovative Headlines!
    By: Tracy Kitten, ATM Marketplace.com
Wells Fargo & Company has been recognized by Information Week in its InformationWeek 500 as the No. 4 financial institution for delivering innovative, advanced technology products and services that make it easier, faster and more convenient for customers to conduct financial transactions.

Avid Modjtabai, Wells’ head of technology and operations, says the recognition reflects Wells’ ability to couple business with technology: It is significant because it demonstrates our commitment to develop innovative technologies to benefit our customers and help them succeed financially.
One example noted by Information Week includes Wells’ wide-scale rollout of its next-generation “envelope-free” ATMs, developed by Wincor Nixdorf AG. The automated deposits allow consumers to deposit up to 50 banknotes and/or up to 30 checks without envelopes.

The ATM converts the paper checks into digital images, which appear on the ATM screen and on the receipt. Additionally, customers get immediate credit for cash deposits and checks deposited on business days before 8 p.m.

Envelope-free ATMs also have helped save more than six thousand trees since their installation in the United States, according to estimates from the Environmental Defense Paper Calculator. For more information on Envelope Free Deposits, click here or email us at info@cooksecuritygroup.com!

Cook Security Group attends JDRF's Walk for the Cure! As part of our Cook Community Builders program, our CFO Molly and our Marketing Manager Dave teamed up with their spouses to attend JDRF's Walk for the Cure 2009 fundraiser in Portland, OR. Walk for the Cure was held at Oaks Park and had over 5000 people in attendance! Diabetes holds a special place in our heart because a few years ago Molly's Nephew was diagnosed with Type 1 Juvenile Diabetes and Dave's son was diagnosed with Type 1 about a month ago. All proceeds raised from the walk are donated to fund diabetes research and maybe even a cure one day! To learn more about the Cook Community Builders program, click here!
